This video shows the steps for configuring a control surface on the iPad and mapping them to Ableton Live.

Windows Setup Instructions

Due to limitations in Windows' support for MIDI, you will need to install a virtual MIDI driver. LoopBe1 is a free virtual MIDI driver that works well with Windows 7.

Warning: LoopBe1 only provides one MIDI device. This means that while dashMIDI Pro will be able to control Ableton Live, Ableton Live will not be able to update dashMIDI Pro when you change a slider. For two way communications, you will need to find a virtual MIDI driver that supports multiple virtual MIDI devices, such as the not free LoopBe30.

  1. Download and start the dashMIDI Pro Server application
  2. In the dashMIDI Pro Server, select your MIDI input and output devices. If you are using LoopBe1, select "Interface 1" for the output.
  3. Start the dashMIDI Pro app on your iPad and configure your control surface
  4. Start your music application (Propellerhead Reason, Ableton Live, etc.) and load your project in that application.
  5. Edit the MIDI mappings in your desktop application. For more details about editing the MIDI mappings, click one of the links below:
  6. You are now ready to go. Don't forget to save your music project to save the new MIDI mappings.
